Many vehicles claim to offer high-level off-road capability, yet struggle to get over a simple curb. The Ford Bronco, on the other hand, feels at home on any terrain, and it's no coincidence that I chose this photo to represent it.
The Bronco is the kind of vehicle people buy to have fun. Sure, it can be used for grocery runs or taking the kids to daycare, but it's also a model that's highly appreciated by modern adventurers. When you think about it, the Ford Bronco truly has everything the average Canadian could want. It's both a convertible and a highly capable 4x4, it offers decent towing capacity, and it's surprisingly comfortable despite its rugged concept. It's one of the rare vehicles capable of satisfying both the needs and the whims of buyers all year long.
The 2026 Ford Bronco offers a broad and diversified lineup starting with the base model, priced at $54,360 for the two-door variant and $56,360 for the four-door version. To be honest, it's worth paying the $58,060 required for the Big Bend trim, which is significantly more appealing thanks to its more complete equipment package.
Next comes the Outer Banks model at $65,737. This version offers improved off-road capability along with a more upscale appearance. The Badlands trim gives buyers access to a wide range of customization options.
Things move into another category entirely with the Heritage Edition, which starts at $71,605. Then there's a major jump to $95,840 for the Stroppe Edition, which is essentially built to tackle desert endurance racing — at least according to the American automaker. Finally, the Raptor sits at the top of the range with a starting price of $112,000. At that point, it's easy to surpass $150,000 once luxury taxes and options start piling up.
The midsize SUV segment with enhanced off-road capability has expanded considerably in recent years with several new models and the return of iconic nameplates. The Ford Bronco quickly established itself as one of the most popular vehicles in the segment, and for good reason. Ford truly went all out with this model, which now even outsells the Mustang.
Competition: Honda Passport, Ineos Grenadier, Jeep Wrangler, Toyota 4Runner, Toyota Land Cruiser
The Ford Bronco features one of the most successful retro-modern designs in the automotive industry. It's a vehicle with character and undeniable appeal. It was designed to be functional, but that doesn't stop it from being stylish as well. Ford offers a wide variety of colors and numerous wheel, fender, and roof configurations, giving the impression that nearly every Bronco is unique.
The Bronco's cabin is both rugged and very comfortable. The ergonomics are well thought out, and one thing I particularly appreciate is the amount of space inside the cabin. At 6 feet tall, there isn't a single time I get in or out of a Jeep Wrangler without bumping into something, whereas that's simply not the case with the Bronco.
The American SUV's multimedia system is very intuitive and navigation is fluid. It may not be the most high-tech vehicle in its segment, but the technologies it offers are useful without being overly intrusive.
The 2026 Ford Bronco offers three engine options, starting with a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing up to 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. This engine can be paired with either a 10-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed manual gearbox. The latter is especially interesting because it includes an extra-low gear designed specifically for off-road driving.
In addition, the sound of this engine is surprisingly enjoyable. It produces a growl comparable to that of a V6 or even a V8 from inside the cabin.
The Bronco is also available with a 2.7-liter V6 producing 330 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. This engine is offered exclusively with the 10-speed automatic transmission.
Finally, the Raptor version benefits from a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 generating 418 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque. Once again, the 10-speed automatic is the only transmission available here.
Pricing climbs quickly from one trim level to another, especially once optional packages are added. Access to the rear cargo area is rather complicated and poorly designed. It's also a large and heavy vehicle, which isn't always an advantage.
It commands respect wherever it goes, and it can go virtually anywhere. The Ford Bronco offers multiple powertrain choices and countless options. It's an iconic model that never fails to turn heads and is genuinely enjoyable to drive.
The Ford Bronco is a vehicle people choose emotionally simply because it's fun.
Ford has done an excellent job with the Bronco, whose popularity continues to grow year after year. The model keeps improving and continues to offer interesting new features. It's an enthusiast vehicle that is now firmly established within the Ford lineup.
